FutureB
The Bears kept it disciplined and banked a B. It is the swing that defines the weekend: Kris Abrams-Draine in pick 66, a good 52 spots before the room expected him. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The Thrash pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Malik Nabers
In No. 4 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value.
Pick9
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In the 9th overall pick they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick27
Rnd1
Kiran Amegadjie
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
They jumped the gun on Jackson Powers-Johnson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It fills a real need, too.
Pick66
Rnd3
Kris Abrams-Draine
They reached into another round for Kris Abrams-Draine, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick75
Rnd3
Gabriel Murphy
A reach for Gabriel Murphy in slot 75; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick110
Rnd4
Jamari Thrash
Jamari Thrash in No. 110 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick122
Rnd4
Grayson Murphy
A real head-scratcher, Grayson Murphy in Round 4, Pick 22 is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick146
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at pick No. 146 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
