FutureB-
The phones sank the Packers this weekend: D. Nobody else had Jackson Slater anywhere near the Round 4 slot. The Packers did, by 34 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Put together, it is a D.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Getting Edwards where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
They chose more darts over a bigger single swing.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In slot 23 they get a go-to option on the outside, outstanding value to boot.
Pick57
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
They paid sticker price for Alfred Collins in the 57th pick, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick58
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
A tidy bit of business in pick 58, where Xavier Watts graded well above the range. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick74
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick87
Rnd3
Charles Grant
Charles Grant at pick No. 87 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick114
Rnd4
Jackson Slater
Jackson Slater at the 114th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick124
Rnd4
Logan Brown
They reached into another round for Logan Brown, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick159
Rnd5
Ty Robinson
By-the-book stuff, Ty Robinson at pick No. 159 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick198
Rnd6
Caleb Ransaw
They went early on Caleb Ransaw in pick 198, and the value did not follow. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick237
Rnd7
Donovan Edwards
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Donovan Edwards in the 237th pick, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick250
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner in Round 7, Pick 34 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
