FutureA
The Seahawks checked most of the boxes and earned a B+. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Seahawks did exactly that with Baylor Cupp in Round 7, Pick 35. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick42
Rnd2
J.J. McCarthy
No edge and no loss on J.J. McCarthy in pick 42; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick78
Rnd3
Junior Colson
A tidy little value on Junior Colson in Round 3, Pick 14, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick111
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at slot 111 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick118
Rnd4
James Williams
James Williams in the 118th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick147
Rnd5
Cam Hart
A slide stopped in the 147th overall pick, with Cam Hart worth more than the price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick154
Rnd5
Javion Cohen
Javion Cohen at No. 154 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick194
Rnd6
Gabe Hall
A conviction pick on Gabe Hall at the Round 6 slot that the board grades a round light. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick230
Rnd7
Chad Lindberg
They left a pile of value on the table to take Chad Lindberg this early at the 230th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick239
Rnd7
Demorie Tate
Demorie Tate in Round 7, Pick 19 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick248
Rnd7
Eric Gentry
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Eric Gentry. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick255
Rnd7
Baylor Cupp
They reached a country mile for Baylor Cupp at slot 255, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
