Bryce DRAFTING FOR THEDolphins
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Dolphins, and a B- to prove it. Nobody had Jake Majors this high, and it is not close. The Dolphins reached 34 spots to get him at the 98th overall pick. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Getting Mafah where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
They jumped the gun on Kenneth Grant, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick48
Rnd2
Jaxson Dart
A clean, defensible pick in the 48th overall pick with a little surplus value in Jaxson Dart. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick98
Rnd3
Jake Majors
They talked themselves into Jake Majors at pick No. 98, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
Pick116
Rnd4
Savion Williams
Savion Williams in pick 116 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick135
Rnd4
Dorian Strong
The board had Dorian Strong higher than the 135th pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick150
Rnd5
LeQuint Allen
Value with a capital V on LeQuint Allen in No. 150, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick155
Rnd5
James Burnip
A straight-up fair deal on James Burnip at the 155th pick, value and slot in agreement. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick224
Rnd7
Dante Trader Jr.
They went early on Dante Trader Jr. in slot 224, and the value did not follow. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick231
Rnd7
Shemar James
Shemar James at the Round 7 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick253
Rnd7
Phil Mafah
Phil Mafah at pick No. 253 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
