Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

TradesA+
FutureA+
The Bears won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: A-. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Bears were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They are betting Powers-Johnson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Getting Irving where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Malik Nabers
In the 3rd pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick20
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In pick 20 they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick34
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at pick No. 34 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick52
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
Ja'Tavion Sanders at Round 2, Pick 20 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick75
Rnd3
Javon Bullard
Javon Bullard at No. 75 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick84
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
A reach for Zak Zinter in the 84th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick103
Rnd4
Bucky Irving
A tidy bit of business in the Round 4 slot, where Bucky Irving graded well above the range. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick110
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
They paid a round early for Darius Robinson in slot 110, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick127
Rnd4
Kris Abrams-Draine
Nice patience on Kris Abrams-Draine, who had no business lasting to pick 127. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick146
Rnd5
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
A tidy little value on Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in No. 146, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick157
Rnd5
Edefuan Ulofoshio
Good price on Edefuan Ulofoshio in the 157th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
