Draft Grade — Bears

The Bears let Emmanwori fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Bears were there to profit. Nick Emmanwori, the No. 19 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 41. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Will Campbell
In the 10th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell in pick 39 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick41 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
The board fumbled Nick Emmanwori all the way to the 41st pick, and they scooped it up. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick72 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick148 Rnd5 Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at pick No. 148 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick233 Rnd7 Bilhal Kone
No edge and no loss on Bilhal Kone in slot 233; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick240 Rnd7 Dante Trader Jr.
A tidy little value on Dante Trader Jr. in No. 240, a step better than break-even. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
