Draft Grade — Bills
Overall C
ValueC NeedB- TradesD FutureB-
The Bills lost the trade table, and the C tells the story.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bills did exactly that with Phillip Webb in the 246th pick.

Edwards falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain.

On the needs board they went 5 of 9, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.

Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Omarion Hampton
In pick No. 30 they get a featured back. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick56 Rnd2 Donovan Ezeiruaku
By-the-book stuff, Donovan Ezeiruaku at slot 56 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick62 Rnd2 Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at the Round 2 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick65 Rnd3 Ashton Gillotte
They talked themselves into Ashton Gillotte at the 65th overall pick, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick173 Rnd5 Jaylen Reed
A reach for Jaylen Reed in pick 173; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick177 Rnd6 KeAndre Lambert-Smith
A real head-scratcher, KeAndre Lambert-Smith in the 177th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick206 Rnd6 Isaac TeSlaa
They reached a country mile for Isaac TeSlaa at slot 206, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick219 Rnd7 Jermari Harris
They paid up for Jermari Harris at No. 219 when waiting would have done the job. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick246 Rnd7 Phillip Webb
Phillip Webb at the 246th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick248 Rnd7 Donovan Edwards
Somehow Donovan Edwards was still sitting there in the 248th overall pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick254 Rnd7 Thomas Fidone II
Thomas Fidone II in pick No. 254 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
