Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Patriots spent slot 223 on Jacob Dobbs, a name most had 183 spots down the list. About as rough as the board gets, and a F to prove it.

Jayden Daniels is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

The verdict is harsh because the weekend was, and there is little to argue.
