Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D-
ValueB NeedA- TradesF FutureD
Larceny in Round 3, Pick 31 lands the 49ers a D-, Wilson and all.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The 49ers did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. The Wilson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Joe Alt
In pick 5 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick31 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In slot 31 they get an anchor for the offensive line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick37 Rnd2 Ladd McConkey
Ladd McConkey at the 37th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick63 Rnd2 Braden Fiske
A clean, defensible pick in No. 63 with a little surplus value in Braden Fiske. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick94 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson at the 94th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Pick124 Rnd4 Elijah Jones
Elijah Jones in pick No. 124 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick131 Rnd4 Theo Johnson
A quiet steal in slot 131: Theo Johnson for less than the market said. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick133 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson at Round 4, Pick 33 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick176 Rnd6 Sione Vaki
Sione Vaki in the Round 6 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick215 Rnd6 Jaylan Ford
They read the board right and Jaylan Ford was the payoff at pick No. 215. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick251 Rnd7 Donovan Jennings
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Donovan Jennings at No. 251. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
