FutureD-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Giants and Mullings: F. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Kalel Mullings, the No. 49 name on the board, stolen at the 166th overall pick. About as rough as the board gets, and a F to prove it.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The Milroe pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left interior defensive lineman open, and the grade is the bill.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In the 5th pick they get a three-down runner. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In the 9th overall pick they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
Jahdae Barron
Circle this one: Jahdae Barron at pick No. 40 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jalen Milroe
A conviction pick on Jalen Milroe at the Round 2 slot that the board grades a round light. The roster fit checks out.
Pick71
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
You do not let an offensive lineman like Tate Ratledge reach Round 3, Pick 7 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick134
Rnd4
Colston Loveland
They will replay Colston Loveland at pick 134 for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick154
Rnd5
Harold Perkins Jr.
They robbed the room for Harold Perkins Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick166
Rnd5
Kalel Mullings
Taking Kalel Mullings in slot 166 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick202
Rnd6
Lander Barton
They barely believed it either: Lander Barton still on the board at No. 202. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick219
Rnd7
Logan Parr
Logan Parr at the 219th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
