Draft Grade — Jets

FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Jets: B-. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Jets took Jack Kelly at the 218th pick, roughly 46 spots before his name belonged. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
That Hurst pick is the receipt they will wave around later. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
David Bailey
In No. 2 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick16
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Pick33
Rnd2
Garrett Nussmeier
Value said wait; Garrett Nussmeier in pick No. 33 says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick44
Rnd2
Elijah Sarratt
A conviction pick on Elijah Sarratt at the 44th overall pick that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick103
Rnd4
Chandler Rivers
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Chandler Rivers in Round 4, Pick 3. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick175
Rnd5
Justin Jefferson
They talked themselves into Justin Jefferson at slot 175, and the board did not agree. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick178
Rnd5
Ephesians Prysock
Ephesians Prysock at the 178th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick192
Rnd6
Rayshaun Benny
Rayshaun Benny in slot 192 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick206
Rnd6
Ted Hurst
They will replay Ted Hurst at the 206th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick209
Rnd6
Le'Veon Moss
Nothing to complain about; Le'Veon Moss went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick218
Rnd7
Jack Kelly
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jack Kelly well ahead of where he belonged. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick242
Rnd7
Eli Heidenreich
Eli Heidenreich at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
