Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesB FutureB
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Steelers.

Priorities are a choice, and the Steelers made a strange one, taking Blake Fisher at offensive lineman in Round 4, Pick 8 with interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots crying out for the pick instead.

For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Watson.

They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick39 Rnd2 Keon Coleman
By-the-book stuff, Keon Coleman at No. 39 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick52 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper at pick 52 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Pick84 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran at the 84th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick108 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots to take Blake Fisher, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick120 Rnd4 Max Melton
They read the board right and Max Melton was the payoff at slot 120. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick121 Rnd4 Beau Brade
They let Beau Brade come to them and pounced at No. 121. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick173 Rnd5 Joe Milton III
No edge and no loss on Joe Milton III in the 173rd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick198 Rnd6 Javon Baker
Javon Baker at pick No. 198 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick257 Rnd7 Blake Watson
Blake Watson at Round 7, Pick 39 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
