Draft Grade — Broncos

FutureB-
The Broncos let Barton fall and pounced. Final grade: B. Thirty-one other rooms let Lander Barton slide, and the Broncos were the ones holding the card at pick 226. Highway robbery. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Reaching for Roberts left real value on the table behind him. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick62
Rnd2
Christen Miller
Taking Christen Miller in the 62nd pick is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick94
Rnd3
Dani Dennis-Sutton
Dani Dennis-Sutton in pick No. 94 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick108
Rnd4
Will Lee III
No edge and no loss on Will Lee III in the 108th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick130
Rnd4
Chase Roberts
A real head-scratcher, Chase Roberts in No. 130 is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick168
Rnd5
Eric McAlister
This one needs a full-page explanation: Eric McAlister in slot 168, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick197
Rnd6
Zane Durant
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Zane Durant reach Round 6, Pick 18 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick226
Rnd7
Lander Barton
Lander Barton in pick 226 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick246
Rnd7
Owen Heinecke
Owen Heinecke at Round 7, Pick 30 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Not a spot anyone had flagged, which makes it a head-scratcher.
Pick251
Rnd7
Fa'alili Fa'amoe
A tidy little value on Fa'alili Fa'amoe in the 251st pick, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
Pick255
Rnd7
Robert Spears-Jennings
Robert Spears-Jennings in No. 255 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
