Draft Grade — Giants
Overall
C+
ValueA-
NeedB
TradesD-
FutureB-
The Giants robbed the room for Fairchild. Final grade: C+. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Dylan Fairchild got past him. The Giants do not have to explain a thing at the 207th overall pick. It washes out to a C+, no better and no worse.
They will need Powell-Ryland to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
The Giants clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
So much rides on Travis Hunter that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Travis Hunter
In pick No. 3 they get an island corner. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Cam Ward
Taking Cam Ward in the 34th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick65
Rnd3
Ashton Jeanty
Ashton Jeanty at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick104
Rnd4
Wyatt Milum
Circle this one: Wyatt Milum at pick 104 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick108
Rnd4
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
This one needs a full-page explanation: Antwaun Powell-Ryland in the 108th pick, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick134
Rnd4
Jahdae Barron
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Jahdae Barron in No. 134, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick153
Rnd5
Tez Johnson
Somehow Tez Johnson was still sitting there in slot 153, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick169
Rnd5
Will Howard
They robbed the room for Will Howard here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick204
Rnd6
Maxwell Hairston
A cornerback of that caliber at the 204th pick is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick207
Rnd6
Dylan Fairchild
They will replay Dylan Fairchild at pick No. 207 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick219
Rnd7
Jake Majors
They barely believed it either: Jake Majors still on the board at slot 219. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick245
Rnd7
Logan Brown
Logan Brown in pick 245 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick256
Rnd7
Joshua Gray
Joshua Gray in No. 256 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
