FutureF
The Giants finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a F. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Giants did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. The warnings were there, and the F is the bill.
Whatever Shedeur Sanders becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Ratledge pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
That Peebles pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with edge rusher still staring back at them.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
In the 5th pick they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick28
Rnd1
Denzel Burke
In the 28th overall pick they get a press-man option on the boundary at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick36
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tate Ratledge. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick60
Rnd2
Trevor Etienne
The board had cheaper options than Trevor Etienne at No. 60, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
Pick70
Rnd3
Antwane Wells Jr.
Antwane Wells Jr. is a better player than pick No. 70 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick102
Rnd4
Shilo Sanders
Shilo Sanders at Round 4, Pick 6 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick134
Rnd5
Donovan Smith
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Donovan Smith at slot 134. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick139
Rnd5
Raheim Sanders
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Raheim Sanders in pick 139, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick166
Rnd6
Aeneas Peebles
Circle this one: Aeneas Peebles at the 166th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick198
Rnd7
Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander at the 198th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
