Draft Grade — Giants
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Giants. The Giants clearly saw something nobody else did in Jacory Croskey-Merritt, taking him 32 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Landing Winston Jr. that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
Abdul Carter at pick 3 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick34
Rnd2
Derrick Harmon
Derrick Harmon at the 34th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick65
Rnd3
Elic Ayomanor
Elic Ayomanor in the 65th pick is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick99
Rnd3
Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. at the Round 3 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick114
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
A tidy bit of business in Round 4, Pick 12, where Kevin Winston Jr. graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick160
Rnd5
Damien Martinez
Damien Martinez in pick No. 160 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick163
Rnd5
Chase Lundt
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Chase Lundt. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick219
Rnd7
Cam Jackson
A conviction pick on Cam Jackson at No. 219 that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick246
Rnd7
Jacory Croskey-Merritt
Jacory Croskey-Merritt in slot 246 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick252
Rnd7
Moliki Matavao
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Moliki Matavao. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
