Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Smael Mondon Jr. got past him. The 49ers do not have to explain a thing at the 147th pick.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Every board in the league had Peebles lower, and that gap is the story. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

So much rides on Nick Emmanwori that the real verdict is a season or two away.
