Draft Grade — Giants
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesC- FutureA+
The Giants kept it disciplined and banked a B.

Priorities are a choice, and the Giants made a strange one, taking Sonny Styles at linebacker in Round 2, Pick 14 with interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots crying out for the pick instead.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. Landing Wheatley that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Spencer Fano
In No. 4 they get an anchor for the offensive line. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick34 Rnd2 Anthony Hill Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Anthony Hill Jr. at pick No. 34, value and slot in agreement. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick46 Rnd2 Sonny Styles
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots still to address, they spent the 46th overall pick on Sonny Styles, a linebacker they were not short of.
Pick102 Rnd4 Zakee Wheatley
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Zakee Wheatley at slot 102. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick116 Rnd4 D'Angelo Ponds
They took D'Angelo Ponds at par in pick 116, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick142 Rnd5 Eric Rivers
Eric Rivers at the 142nd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick155 Rnd5 Iapani Laloulu
They paid sticker price for Iapani Laloulu in Round 5, Pick 15, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick182 Rnd6 DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick191 Rnd6 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
A quiet steal in No. 191: Jermaine Mathews Jr. for less than the market said. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick193 Rnd6 Oscar Delp
No edge and no loss on Oscar Delp in Round 6, Pick 13; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick202 Rnd6 Bud Clark
Bud Clark in pick 202 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
