TradesA+
FutureA+
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Giants a A-. The real work happened on the phones. The Giants fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.
The Giants indulged a want in Styles while a need in interior defensive lineman, wide receiver and other spots stayed open. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
They will need Foster to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Bottom line, with Mansoor Delane leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Mansoor Delane
In pick No. 23 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick28
Rnd1
Caleb Banks
In pick 28 they get juice off the edge. A real need, handled.
Pick34
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
They paid sticker price for Anthony Hill Jr. in the 34th pick, and that is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick45
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Sonny Styles adds a linebacker and leaves interior defensive lineman, wide receiver and other spots untouched.
Pick54
Rnd2
Kamari Ramsey
Good price on Kamari Ramsey in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick102
Rnd4
Jack Endries
Jack Endries in Round 4, Pick 2 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick109
Rnd4
D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds in slot 109 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick142
Rnd5
Blake Miller
Blake Miller at No. 142 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick182
Rnd6
DJ Campbell
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on DJ Campbell. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick191
Rnd6
Bud Clark
A reach on Bud Clark in Round 6, Pick 11; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick193
Rnd6
Monroe Mills
They read the board right and Monroe Mills was the payoff at pick No. 193. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick221
Rnd7
Bryce Foster
Bryce Foster at the 221st overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
