Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB-
TradesA+
FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the Chiefs this weekend: B. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Chiefs were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. The Thomas pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Zuhn III falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Mansoor Delane
In the Round 1 slot they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick29
Rnd1
Kayden McDonald
In slot 29 they get a run-stuffing presence up front, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick40
Rnd2
Zion Young
Zion Young at pick No. 40 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Pick74
Rnd3
Bryce Lance
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Bryce Lance well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick92
Rnd3
Elijah Sarratt
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 28, with Elijah Sarratt worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick110
Rnd4
Caden Curry
Value said wait; Caden Curry in No. 110 says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick148
Rnd5
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at the 148th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick169
Rnd5
Beau Stephens
They read the board right and Beau Stephens was the payoff at the 169th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick176
Rnd5
Matt Gulbin
A straight-up fair deal on Matt Gulbin at the 176th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick199
Rnd6
Josh Cameron
Josh Cameron slid further than he should have, and pick 199 is lovely value for the wide receiver. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick210
Rnd6
Zavion Thomas
They reached into another round for Zavion Thomas, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
