The Packers cashed the board's mistake on Williams: B-. Somebody in pick No. 246 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Isaiah Williams, the No. 218 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
In No. 25 they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
Tyler Nubin slid further than he should have, and slot 41 is lovely value for the safety. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick77
Rnd3
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick 77. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick88
Rnd3
Ruke Orhorhoro
Value with a capital V on Ruke Orhorhoro in the Round 3 slot, a genuine coup. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick92
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at pick No. 92 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick112
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen in the 112th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick125
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
A tidy little value on Khyree Jackson in Round 4, Pick 25, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick135
Rnd4
Kris Abrams-Draine
They let Kris Abrams-Draine come to them and pounced at the 135th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick150
Rnd5
Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick203
Rnd6
Bru McCoy
A quiet steal in the 203rd overall pick: Bru McCoy for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
Pick217
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
The board fumbled Joshua Gray all the way to the 217th pick, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick219
Rnd6
Isaiah Davis
Isaiah Davis at No. 219 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick246
Rnd7
Isaiah Williams
Isaiah Williams at slot 246 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
