Draft Grade — Bears

FutureA-
Quarterback settled, Maye in the fold, and a D for the Bears. Somebody took the Bears to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The math is unkind, and the D follows.
So much rides on Drake Maye that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Berger.
If Jackson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In pick 9 they get a weapon on the perimeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick27
Rnd1
Bralen Trice
In slot 27 they get a bendy edge with upside, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick30
Rnd1
Tyler Nubin
In No. 30 they get a ballhawk on the back end at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick41
Rnd2
Graham Barton
They paid up for Graham Barton at the 41st pick when waiting would have done the job. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick62
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell in Round 2, Pick 30 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick71
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cooper Beebe. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick75
Rnd3
Johnny Wilson
No edge and no loss on Johnny Wilson in the 75th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick93
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at pick No. 93 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick123
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson in No. 123 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick143
Rnd5
Theo Johnson
They jumped the gun on Theo Johnson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick248
Rnd7
Jalen Berger
The board fumbled Jalen Berger all the way to pick 248, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
