Draft Grade — Giants
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Giants finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B-. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Giants watched Danny Stutsman slide 64 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
So much rides on Cam Ward that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. Reaching for Alexander left real value on the table behind him. They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Cam Ward
In the 3rd pick they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Pick34
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker at pick No. 34 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick65
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
A conviction pick on Maxwell Hairston at slot 65 that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick104
Rnd4
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander in Round 4, Pick 3 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick134
Rnd4
Elijah Arroyo
Taking Elijah Arroyo in pick 134 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick155
Rnd5
Danny Stutsman
Steal is underselling it; Danny Stutsman at pick No. 155 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
