Draft Grade — Broncos
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB-
TradesB
FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Broncos, and a B- to prove it. For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Broncos walked out of the weekend still thin at linebacker, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The veteran additions, Henry To'oTo'o chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. The Gregory pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Good work on the whole, with linebacker the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick108
Rnd4
Wendell Gregory
The board had cheaper options than Wendell Gregory at the 108th pick, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick131
Rnd4
Tao Johnson
Tao Johnson in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick169
Rnd5
Earnest Greene III
A straight-up fair deal on Earnest Greene III at the 169th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick247
Rnd7
Jaquaize Pettaway
Jaquaize Pettaway in slot 247 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick255
Rnd7
Christian Gray
Christian Gray in pick 255 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
