Draft Grade — Packers
Overall B

Larceny in Round 6, Pick 28 lands the Packers a B, Smith-Wade and all.

Somebody in slot 203 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Chau Smith-Wade, the No. 162 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

The cost of the Lindberg reach is exactly the players who went right after him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. With quarterback, wide receiver and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
In pick No. 25 they get a disruptor off the edge, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick41 Rnd2 Kamren Kinchens
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Kamren Kinchens. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick58 Rnd2 Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in Round 2, Pick 26, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick88 Rnd3 Blake Corum
They read the board right and Blake Corum was the payoff at No. 88. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick91 Rnd3 Gabriel Murphy
Fair-plus on Gabriel Murphy, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick125 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
Circle this one: Blake Fisher at the 125th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick126 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
No drama and no debate, Tommy Eichenberg went about where he belonged in pick 126. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick135 Rnd4 Malik Mustapha
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Malik Mustapha in slot 135 leaves quarterback, wide receiver and other spots for later.
Pick203 Rnd6 Chau Smith-Wade
Somehow Chau Smith-Wade was still sitting there in pick 203, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick204 Rnd6 Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten at No. 204 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
Pick217 Rnd6 Kimani Vidal
Taking Kimani Vidal in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick219 Rnd6 Chad Lindberg
They left a pile of value on the table to take Chad Lindberg this early at pick No. 219. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick246 Rnd7 Brevyn Spann-Ford
Brevyn Spann-Ford in Round 7, Pick 26 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
