Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
D+
ValueB
NeedB
TradesF
FutureA+
Maye is the plan now, and the Bears grade out a D+. The phones were a trap the Bears kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
They have staked the next five years on Drake Maye, which is the only story that really matters here. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They are betting Hicks proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Franklin at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In the 7th pick they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43
Rnd2
Keon Coleman
They let Keon Coleman come to them and pounced at pick No. 43. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick75
Rnd3
Byron Murphy II
Byron Murphy II at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick110
Rnd4
Jaden Hicks
They jumped the gun on Jaden Hicks, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick125
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
Nothing to complain about; Khyree Jackson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick145
Rnd5
Andrew Coker
A conviction pick on Andrew Coker at No. 145 that the board grades a round light. The roster fit checks out.
Pick146
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott in slot 146 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick186
Rnd6
Justin Eboigbe
A clean, defensible pick in the 186th overall pick with a little surplus value in Justin Eboigbe. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick205
Rnd6
Bryce Foster
Bryce Foster at slot 205 is a conviction pick that outran the value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick232
Rnd7
Zakhari Franklin
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Zakhari Franklin in pick No. 232. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
