Draft Grade — Packers

TradesF
FutureA+
The Packers bled value on every deal, hence the D. There is reaching, and then there is Dominic Zvada at Round 7, Pick 20. The Packers jumped the board by 57 and dared it to prove them wrong.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Getting Haulcy where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get a featured back at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick16
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In pick No. 16 they get a green-dot type in the middle. More want than need.
Pick44
Rnd2
Carson Beck
They reached into another round for Carson Beck, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick52
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
The board had Jake Slaughter higher than the Round 2 slot, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick74
Rnd3
Malachi Fields
Malachi Fields at the 74th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick84
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy in No. 84 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick120
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bryce Lance. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick146
Rnd5
Jyaire Hill
Jyaire Hill at No. 146 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick158
Rnd5
Drew Allar
They took Drew Allar at par in the 158th pick, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick175
Rnd5
Max Iheanachor
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Max Iheanachor in pick No. 175. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick201
Rnd6
Eric McAlister
A straight-up fair deal on Eric McAlister at the 201st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick236
Rnd7
Dominic Zvada
Value said wait; Dominic Zvada in slot 236 says they were not listening. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick254
Rnd7
Riley Mahlman
A real head-scratcher, Riley Mahlman in the Round 7 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick257
Rnd7
Peyton Bowen
Fair-plus on Peyton Bowen, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
