Draft Grade — 49ers

The 49ers cashed the board's mistake on Jackson: D-.

Somebody took the 49ers to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.

Every board in the league had McCaffrey lower, and that gap is the story. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Getting Jackson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. More want than need.
Pick31 Rnd1 Tyler Guyton
In the 31st overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick46 Rnd2 Xavier Worthy
They paid a round early for Xavier Worthy in slot 46, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick94 Rnd3 Maason Smith
Maason Smith in Round 3, Pick 31 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick124 Rnd4 Javon Foster
Javon Foster at pick No. 124 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick131 Rnd4 Luke McCaffrey
They left a pile of value on the table to take Luke McCaffrey this early at the 131st pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick176 Rnd6 Daijun Edwards
Daijun Edwards at pick 176 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick211 Rnd6 Jha'Quan Jackson
A wide receiver of that caliber at the Round 6 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick215 Rnd6 M.J. Devonshire
Steal is underselling it; M.J. Devonshire at No. 215 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick251 Rnd7 Trevin Wallace
Trevin Wallace in the 251st pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
