The Packers checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Packers spent the 246th pick on Kendall Milton, a name the board had a full 132 spots lower. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Clark pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Troy Fautanu
A reach on Troy Fautanu in the Round 1 slot; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick41
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
They paid sticker price for Xavier Legette in Round 2, Pick 9, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick57
Rnd2
Javon Bullard
Javon Bullard in slot 57 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick88
Rnd3
Marist Liufau
By-the-book stuff, Marist Liufau at pick No. 88 squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick89
Rnd3
Braden Fiske
Braden Fiske at No. 89 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Pick92
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
They reached a country mile for Khyree Jackson at pick 92, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick125
Rnd4
Sataoa Laumea
Sataoa Laumea at the 125th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick135
Rnd4
Javion Cohen
Javion Cohen at the 135th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick188
Rnd6
Sam Hartman
Sam Hartman at pick No. 188 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick203
Rnd6
De'Corian Clark
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and De'Corian Clark at No. 203 is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick217
Rnd6
Omar Speights
Omar Speights at Round 6, Pick 42 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick219
Rnd6
Zion Nelson
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Zion Nelson in pick 219. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick246
Rnd7
Kendall Milton
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kendall Milton in the Round 7 slot, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
