Draft Grade — Packers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB+ FutureB-
The Packers kept it disciplined and banked a B.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Packers started one anyway for Matthew Jones, 59 picks ahead of schedule. No fireworks, but a solid B.

The Burke steal is the beam this whole class leans on. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick35 Rnd2 Rome Odunze
Rome Odunze in Round 2, Pick 3 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick39 Rnd2 Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka slipping to pick 39 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick43 Rnd2 Byron Murphy II
Byron Murphy II in slot 43 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick75 Rnd3 T.J. Tampa
Somehow T.J. Tampa was still sitting there in pick No. 75, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick82 Rnd3 Kingsley Suamataia
Taking Kingsley Suamataia in No. 82 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick111 Rnd4 Denzel Burke
They robbed the room for Denzel Burke here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick135 Rnd4 Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford at pick 135 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick189 Rnd6 Cody Schrader
Value with a capital V on Cody Schrader in the Round 6 slot, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick217 Rnd6 Frank Gore Jr.
A big swing on Frank Gore Jr. at Round 6, Pick 42, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick219 Rnd6 Francisco Mauigoa
No drama and no debate, Francisco Mauigoa went about where he belonged in the 219th pick. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick232 Rnd7 Matthew Jones
Matthew Jones at slot 232 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
