Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B
ValueB-

TradesA+
FutureB-
The Packers won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with Tommy Eichenberg in the 91st overall pick. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
It is not that Eichenberg is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first. Robinson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In the 31st pick they get juice off the edge, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick41
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
A straight-up fair deal on T'Vondre Sweat at No. 41, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick58
Rnd2
Payton Wilson
Fair-plus on Payton Wilson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick91
Rnd3
Tommy Eichenberg
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Tommy Eichenberg adds a linebacker and leaves cornerback, running back and other spots untouched.
Pick127
Rnd4
James Williams
James Williams at the Round 4 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick168
Rnd5
Walter Rouse
No edge and no loss on Walter Rouse in pick No. 168; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick204
Rnd6
Garret Greenfield
Garret Greenfield at slot 204 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick216
Rnd6
Keaton Bills
Keaton Bills in the 216th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick243
Rnd7
Sam Hartman
Sam Hartman at Round 7, Pick 23 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick251
Rnd7
Matthew Jones
They took Matthew Jones at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
