Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Packers kept it disciplined and banked a B-. The war room fell hard for Hayden Hatten, and it showed at the Round 7 slot: 55 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Spending an early pick on OLB-EDGE with tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cooper DeJean at Round 1, Pick 25. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick41
Rnd2
Bralen Trice
They took Bralen Trice at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick57
Rnd2
Mekhi Wingo
They liked Mekhi Wingo enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 57. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick90
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at the 90th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick91
Rnd3
Javon Solomon
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick No. 91 on Javon Solomon with tight end unsolved.
Pick125
Rnd4
Will Shipley
Will Shipley in the 125th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick135
Rnd4
LaDarius Henderson
LaDarius Henderson at pick No. 135 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick140
Rnd5
Sincere Haynesworth
Sincere Haynesworth in the 140th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
Pick203
Rnd6
Sam Hartman
No edge and no loss on Sam Hartman in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick217
Rnd6
Sheridan Jones
Sheridan Jones in slot 217 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick219
Rnd6
Demani Richardson
Demani Richardson in pick 219 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick246
Rnd7
Hayden Hatten
A big swing on Hayden Hatten at the 246th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
