Draft Grade — Packers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Packers.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Packers spent the 255th pick on Stefon Thompson, a name most had 118 spots down the list. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

The Coleman pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Tyler Guyton
In No. 25 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
Pick41 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
No drama and no debate, Chris Braswell went about where he belonged in the 41st pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick58 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
They paid sticker price for Kingsley Suamataia in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick90 Rnd3 Keon Coleman
Keon Coleman in pick No. 90 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick91 Rnd3 Audric Estime
They paid a round early for Audric Estime in the 91st overall pick, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick126 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
A straight-up fair deal on Ben Sinnott at pick 126, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick138 Rnd5 Tykee Smith
A premium they did not need to pay, Tykee Smith a notch or two before his time. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick169 Rnd5 Layden Robinson
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Layden Robinson. The roster fit checks out.
Pick202 Rnd6 Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini at pick 202 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick219 Rnd6 Michael Barrett
By-the-book stuff, Michael Barrett at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick245 Rnd7 Sam Hartman
They talked themselves into Sam Hartman at the 245th pick, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick255 Rnd7 Stefon Thompson
They reached a country mile for Stefon Thompson at slot 255, and the board is aghast. The roster logic is harder to follow.
