Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesD FutureA+
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Commanders a B.

The Commanders put a flag in the ground for Patrick Payton, 46 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

Landing Reese that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the 30th overall pick they get a three-down second-level presence at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick57 Rnd2 Nyck Harbor
Nyck Harbor at No. 57 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick68 Rnd3 Darrell Jackson Jr.
Darrell Jackson Jr. in Round 3, Pick 4 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick94 Rnd3 Malachi Fields
Malachi Fields at the Round 3 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick124 Rnd4 Tacario Davis
Tacario Davis at slot 124 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick130 Rnd4 Jyaire Hill
Jyaire Hill at pick No. 130 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick139 Rnd4 Chase Bisontis
A tidy bit of business in pick 139, where Chase Bisontis graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick147 Rnd5 Logan Jones
By-the-book stuff, Logan Jones at No. 147 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick186 Rnd6 Oscar Delp
A straight-up fair deal on Oscar Delp at slot 186, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick191 Rnd6 Patrick Payton
They reached into another round for Patrick Payton, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick220 Rnd7 Jordan Castell
A premium they did not need to pay, Jordan Castell a notch or two before his time. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick245 Rnd7 Peyton Bowen
No edge and no loss on Peyton Bowen in the Round 7 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
