FutureA+
More right than wrong for the Bears, and a B+ to prove it. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Bears spent slot 216 on DeMonte Capehart, a name the board had a full 59 spots lower. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
The Trice steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Brock Bowers
In pick 6 they get a mismatch in the passing game. Need was not the driver here.
Pick31
Rnd1
Tyler Nubin
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the back end at fair value. More want than need.
Pick39
Rnd2
Ladd McConkey
Ladd McConkey at pick No. 39 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick51
Rnd2
Bralen Trice
Bralen Trice slid further than he should have, and the 51st pick is lovely value for the edge rusher. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick63
Rnd2
Brandon Dorlus
Brandon Dorlus in the 63rd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick70
Rnd3
Jonathon Brooks
They let Jonathon Brooks come to them and pounced at slot 70. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick75
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
No edge and no loss on Cooper Beebe in pick 75; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick94
Rnd3
Spencer Rattler
Good price on Spencer Rattler in the 94th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick110
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
A clean, defensible pick in No. 110 with a little surplus value in Khyree Jackson. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick122
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick146
Rnd5
Sincere Haynesworth
Sincere Haynesworth at Round 5, Pick 10 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick216
Rnd6
DeMonte Capehart
A wild overpay on DeMonte Capehart in slot 216, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
