FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Commanders and Robinson: B+. The real work happened on the phones. The Commanders fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. They banked enough surplus on Robinson to cover a lot of smaller sins. Trey McBride gives the group a proven body among the projects.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In the 4th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick36
Rnd2
Graham Barton
Graham Barton at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick40
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
Fair-plus on Chris Braswell, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick67
Rnd3
D.J. James
Nothing to complain about; D.J. James went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick100
Rnd3
Gabriel Murphy
Gabriel Murphy at slot 100 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick102
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
No edge and no loss on Khyree Jackson in No. 102; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick141
Rnd5
Cole Bishop
They let Cole Bishop come to them and pounced at slot 141. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick181
Rnd6
Layden Robinson
Layden Robinson in the Round 6 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick223
Rnd7
Blake Watson
Blake Watson at pick No. 223 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
