FutureA+
The Patriots got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C+. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Patriots did exactly that with Jack Kiser in pick 144.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. However the rest shakes out, Hunter at that price is a win they earned.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In pick 26 they get a security blanket over the middle, outstanding value to boot.
Pick38
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 6: Malaki Starks for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick69
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at the 69th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick77
Rnd3
Tre Harris
Tre Harris slid further than he should have, and the Round 3 slot is lovely value for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick97
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo slipping to slot 97 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick106
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Phillips at No. 106 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick144
Rnd5
Jack Kiser
A wild overpay on Jack Kiser in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick211
Rnd6
Jarquez Hunter
Jarquez Hunter in pick 211 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick220
Rnd7
Ricky White III
No edge and no loss on Ricky White III in No. 220; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick238
Rnd7
Donovan Smith
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Donovan Smith. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
