Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The Cowboys got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the B-.

The Cowboys lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They will need Lawrence to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Reese.

They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In pick No. 20 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick47 Rnd2 Brandon Cisse
Brandon Cisse slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the cornerback. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick112 Rnd4 Malachi Lawrence
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Malachi Lawrence well ahead of where he belonged. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick150 Rnd5 Nadame Tucker
A premium they did not need to pay, Nadame Tucker a notch or two before his time. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick177 Rnd5 Bud Clark
Bud Clark at the 177th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick215 Rnd6 PJ Williams
PJ Williams at pick 215 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick221 Rnd7 Ethan O'Connor
Ethan O'Connor in slot 221 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick225 Rnd7 Jalen Catalon
No drama and no debate, Jalen Catalon went about where he belonged in No. 225. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
