FutureA+
The 49ers let Lovett fall and pounced. Final grade: B-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the 49ers were there to profit. Dominic Lovett, the No. 213 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 247. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.
Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick Analysis
Pick59
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at the 59th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick98
Rnd3
D.J. James
They will replay D.J. James at pick 98 for years; that is how good the value is. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick107
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
A tidy little value on Blake Fisher in the 107th overall pick, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick126
Rnd4
Antwane Wells Jr.
Value with a capital V on Antwane Wells Jr. in No. 126, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick127
Rnd4
Troy Fautanu
Nice patience on Troy Fautanu, who had no business lasting to the Round 4 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick177
Rnd6
BJ Mayes
BJ Mayes at pick No. 177 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick205
Rnd6
Jahdae Barron
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jahdae Barron at slot 205 is the proof. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
Pick213
Rnd6
Tre Harris
Tre Harris at Round 6, Pick 38 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick215
Rnd6
Jordan Whittington
A tidy bit of business in pick 215, where Jordan Whittington graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick247
Rnd7
Dominic Lovett
Steal is underselling it; Dominic Lovett at slot 247 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick248
Rnd7
Dorian Singer
Somehow Dorian Singer was still sitting there in the Round 7 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
