FutureA-
The phones sank the Buccaneers this weekend: C+. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Buccaneers did exactly that with Keilan Robinson in the 247th pick. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
The Buccaneers indulged a want in Liufau while a need in edge rusher stayed open. On value alone, Liufau makes the weekend a net positive.
If Ja'Tavion Sanders and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick55
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Tavion Sanders. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick58
Rnd2
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at pick No. 58, value and slot in agreement. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick63
Rnd2
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in Round 2, Pick 31 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick64
Rnd2
Braden Fiske
They left a pile of value on the table to take Braden Fiske this early at slot 64. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick95
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
They paid up for Khyree Jackson at No. 95 when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick100
Rnd3
Marist Liufau
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 100th overall pick on Marist Liufau with edge rusher unsolved.
Pick102
Rnd4
Jordan Travis
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jordan Travis. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick114
Rnd4
Sataoa Laumea
Sataoa Laumea at the 114th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick138
Rnd5
Malik Mustapha
They took Malik Mustapha at par in No. 138, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick166
Rnd5
Roger Rosengarten
They paid sticker price for Roger Rosengarten in pick 166, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick179
Rnd6
Jawhar Jordan
Jawhar Jordan at slot 179 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick204
Rnd6
Tanor Bortolini
By-the-book stuff, Tanor Bortolini at the 204th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick214
Rnd6
Carson Steele
Carson Steele in Round 6, Pick 39 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick216
Rnd6
Jordan Whittington
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jordan Whittington well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
Pick247
Rnd7
Keilan Robinson
They reached into another round for Keilan Robinson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
