FutureC
Good, not great, for the Raiders: B-. The Raiders bet big and early on Kyle Williams, 64 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Belton. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Mike Hilton gives the group a proven body among the projects.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get protection for the quarterback, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick33
Rnd2
Shavon Revel Jr.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Shavon Revel Jr.. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick37
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kenneth Grant at No. 37 is the proof. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick54
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
No drama and no debate, Jayden Higgins went about where he belonged in pick No. 54. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick67
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins at the 67th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick68
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
By-the-book stuff, Carson Schwesinger at pick 68 squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick69
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
A straight-up fair deal on Tate Ratledge at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick90
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
A reasonable price with a little left over, Andrew Mukuba in slot 90. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick94
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darius Alexander. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick104
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
They paid sticker price for Cam Skattebo in the 104th overall pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick108
Rnd4
Kyle Williams
They reached into another round for Kyle Williams, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick127
Rnd4
Bhayshul Tuten
Bhayshul Tuten at pick No. 127 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
Pick143
Rnd5
Anthony Belton
Anthony Belton at No. 143 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick180
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick 180 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick195
Rnd6
Caleb Ransaw
Caleb Ransaw at the 195th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick202
Rnd6
Bilhal Kone
Bilhal Kone in the 202nd overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick213
Rnd6
Isaac TeSlaa
This one needs a full-page explanation: Isaac TeSlaa in the Round 6 slot, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick215
Rnd6
Nazir Stackhouse
Good price on Nazir Stackhouse in pick 215, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick222
Rnd7
Jamon Dumas-Johnson
Jamon Dumas-Johnson at slot 222 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick237
Rnd7
Garrett Dellinger
Value said wait; Garrett Dellinger in Round 7, Pick 21 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
