FutureC-
The Raiders bet the future on Sanders. The board says F. It is the swing that defines the weekend: John Williams in pick No. 222, a good 43 spots before the room expected him.
So much rides on Shedeur Sanders that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Jackson steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with edge rusher still staring back at them.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
In slot 14 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
Pick17
Rnd1
Jihaad Campbell
In the Round 1 slot they get a green-dot type in the middle, though the board says they badly overpaid. Need was not the driver here.
Pick37
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
They let Kenneth Grant come to them and pounced at pick No. 37. The roster fit checks out.
Pick45
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Watts at Round 2, Pick 13, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick67
Rnd3
Darien Porter
A premium they did not need to pay, Darien Porter a notch or two before his time. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick68
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
Nothing to complain about; Quinshon Judkins went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick94
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
Steal is underselling it; Donovan Jackson at the 94th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick104
Rnd4
Anthony Belton
No drama and no debate, Anthony Belton went about where he belonged in slot 104. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick108
Rnd4
Tai Felton
A tidy bit of business in pick 108, where Tai Felton graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick143
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
They jumped the gun on Bhayshul Tuten, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick180
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in No. 180 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick213
Rnd6
Isaac TeSlaa
A wild overpay on Isaac TeSlaa in pick No. 213, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick215
Rnd6
Bilhal Kone
A reach for Bilhal Kone in the Round 6 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick222
Rnd7
John Williams
This one needs a full-page explanation: John Williams in Round 7, Pick 6, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
