Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
D+
ValueB
NeedB
TradesF
FutureD
The Raiders lost the trade table, and the D+ tells the story. The Raiders treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick 222 on Nick Martin a full 53 spots early.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The Winston Jr. pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, tight end and other spots still on the board.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. That Watts pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In No. 12 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick17
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In the 17th pick they get a lead back with juice at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick33
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
A reasonable price with a little left over, Emeka Egbuka in Round 2, Pick 1. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick37
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
By-the-book stuff, Jihaad Campbell at slot 37 squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick67
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick68
Rnd3
Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts at the 68th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick94
Rnd3
Jalen Milroe
Jalen Milroe at slot 94 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick116
Rnd4
Jacob Parrish
They paid sticker price for Jacob Parrish in pick No. 116, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick119
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
A curious use of pick 119. Edge rusher, tight end and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Kevin Winston Jr. did not.
Pick143
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
A conviction pick on Bhayshul Tuten at No. 143 that the board grades a round light. The roster fit checks out.
Pick155
Rnd5
Willie Lampkin
They talked themselves into Willie Lampkin at Round 5, Pick 17, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick180
Rnd6
Clay Webb
They paid a round early for Clay Webb in the 180th overall pick, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick213
Rnd6
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa in the Round 6 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick215
Rnd6
Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards slipping to the 215th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick222
Rnd7
Nick Martin
They reached a country mile for Nick Martin at the 222nd pick, and the board is aghast. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
