FutureD
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Raiders and Blue: D. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Raiders, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Blue at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. If Porter pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Armand Membou
They took Armand Membou at par in pick No. 6, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick17
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
A tidy bit of business in the 17th pick, where Ashton Jeanty graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Pick37
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
They read the board right and Emeka Egbuka was the payoff at No. 37. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick67
Rnd3
Darien Porter
Darien Porter at Round 3, Pick 3 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick68
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins in pick 68 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick94
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins at the 94th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick108
Rnd4
Carson Schwesinger
They will replay Carson Schwesinger at Round 4, Pick 6 for years; that is how good the value is. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick143
Rnd5
Dillon Gabriel
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dillon Gabriel at the 143rd overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick180
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They paid sticker price for Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the Round 6 slot, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick213
Rnd6
Clay Webb
Taking Clay Webb in No. 213 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick215
Rnd6
Caleb Ransaw
Nice patience on Caleb Ransaw, who had no business lasting to pick 215. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick222
Rnd7
Jaydon Blue
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Jaydon Blue in the 222nd pick, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
