Lew should have been long gone. The Patriots pounced, and earned a B-.

When a board-topper like Connor Lew slides to Round 3, Pick 31, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

James has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Elijah Sarratt
In the 31st overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick63 Rnd2 Michael Taaffe
Value with a capital V on Michael Taaffe in slot 63, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick95 Rnd3 Connor Lew
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Connor Lew in pick No. 95, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick125 Rnd4 Kage Casey
Kage Casey in No. 125 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick131 Rnd4 Eli Raridon
Eli Raridon at the 131st pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick169 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
You do not let a cornerback like Davison Igbinosun reach pick 169 and blink. They did not. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick189 Rnd6 Eric McAlister
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Eric McAlister at the Round 6 slot is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick200 Rnd6 Quinten Joyner
No drama and no debate, Quinten Joyner went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 21. The roster fit checks out.
Pick207 Rnd6 Antonio Kite
Antonio Kite at No. 207 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick210 Rnd6 Daevin Hobbs
They paid a round early for Daevin Hobbs in pick 210, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick247 Rnd7 Kamran James
They reached into another round for Kamran James, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
