Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
B+
ValueB+
NeedC+
TradesA+
FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Seahawks for Thompkins: B+. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Seahawks came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Thompkins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Spending an early pick on safety with quarterback and tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Will Echoles
In pick 27 they get a load in the middle, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick55
Rnd2
Kade Pieper
Kade Pieper is a better player than the 55th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick86
Rnd3
Greg Johnson
Somehow Greg Johnson was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick100
Rnd3
Iapani Laloulu
By-the-book stuff, Iapani Laloulu at the 100th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick101
Rnd3
Devan Thompkins
Devan Thompkins in pick No. 101 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick129
Rnd4
Shadre Hurst
Value with a capital V on Shadre Hurst in No. 129, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick135
Rnd4
Earl Little Jr.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Earl Little Jr. in pick No. 135 leaves quarterback and tight end for later.
Pick161
Rnd5
Eli Bowen
No drama and no debate, Eli Bowen went about where he belonged in Round 5, Pick 23. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
Pick175
Rnd5
Whit Weeks
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Whit Weeks in pick 175. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick177
Rnd5
Hollywood Smothers
Hollywood Smothers in the 177th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick201
Rnd6
Earnest Greene III
The board had cheaper options than Earnest Greene III at No. 201, and it noticed. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick213
Rnd6
Amare Thomas
Amare Thomas at slot 213 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick245
Rnd7
C.J. Fite
The board had C.J. Fite higher than the 245th pick, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
