Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the 49ers a B-.

Some picks age like wine; Garrett Dellinger at the 252nd overall pick will need to, sitting 45 spots clear of his grade. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

Winston Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The 49ers indulged a want in Burke while a need in quarterback, tight end and other spots stayed open.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Mason Graham
In the 11th overall pick they get an anchor for the defensive front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Trey Amos
By-the-book stuff, Trey Amos at No. 43 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick75 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
They let Donovan Jackson come to them and pounced at the 75th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick100 Rnd3 David Walker
They paid sticker price for David Walker in pick 100, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick113 Rnd4 Denzel Burke
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending slot 113 on Denzel Burke with quarterback, tight end and other spots unsolved.
Pick138 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
Circle this one: Kevin Winston Jr. at Round 4, Pick 36 is a fall that decides a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick147 Rnd5 Jake Majors
Jake Majors at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick160 Rnd5 Ollie Gordon II
A premium they did not need to pay, Ollie Gordon II a notch or two before his time. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick227 Rnd7 Ty Hamilton
A wild overpay on Ty Hamilton in the 227th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick249 Rnd7 Jaylin Lane
Jaylin Lane at pick 249 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick252 Rnd7 Garrett Dellinger
This one needs a full-page explanation: Garrett Dellinger in No. 252, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
