Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall D
ValueB+ NeedB TradesF FutureB
The Steelers robbed the room for Fortune. Final grade: D.

Somebody took the Steelers to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. It grades a D, and the process earned it.

Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Fortune pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Walter Nolen
In the 32nd pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick64 Rnd2 Azareye'h Thomas
Azareye'h Thomas at slot 64 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick87 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
They did well to land Donovan Jackson in pick No. 87, just ahead of his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick96 Rnd3 Tai Felton
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Tai Felton worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick123 Rnd4 Will Howard
They robbed the room for Will Howard here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick129 Rnd4 Jordan Phillips
They will replay Jordan Phillips at the 129th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick163 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
Somehow O'Donnell Fortune was still sitting there in No. 163, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick200 Rnd6 Roc Taylor
Value with a capital V on Roc Taylor in slot 200, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick212 Rnd6 Luke Lachey
You do not let a tight end like Luke Lachey reach the 212th overall pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick231 Rnd7 Trevor Etienne
Trevor Etienne slipping to Round 7, Pick 13 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
