Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureA+
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Bears a B. The Bears did not so much draft Theo Johnson as overpay for him, 27 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
They banked enough surplus on Cooper Jr. to cover a lot of smaller sins. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through linebacker.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a matchup problem out wide. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick20
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In the 20th pick they get a long-term starter on the line, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
Tyler Nubin at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick47
Rnd2
Braden Fiske
Braden Fiske in pick No. 47 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick55
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at slot 55 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick70
Rnd3
Kiran Amegadjie
Kiran Amegadjie in No. 70 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick75
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
By-the-book stuff, Cooper Beebe at No. 75 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick104
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
No drama and no debate, Isaac Guerendo went about where he belonged in pick 104. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick109
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson in the 109th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick121
Rnd4
Michael Pratt
Michael Pratt at the Round 4 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick157
Rnd5
Braiden McGregor
They went early on Braiden McGregor in pick No. 157, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick183
Rnd6
Jordan Jefferson
They took Jordan Jefferson at par in slot 183, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick253
Rnd7
Ryan Cooper Jr.
Taking Ryan Cooper Jr. in Round 7, Pick 33 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
