The Patriots lost the trade table, and the D tells the story.

Somebody took the Patriots to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.

Greene III has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. With interior defensive lineman and quarterback unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Thieneman.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.

In slot 27 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, and a steal at that. More want than need.
Pick48 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
A safety of that caliber at pick 48 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.

Quietly one of the better values of the day, Derrick Moore at the Round 2 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.

A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Joe Royer. It fills a real need, too.

They paid sticker price for Iapani Laloulu in pick No. 51, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.

Germie Bernard at No. 59 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
